Beginners Guide To Meditation
New to meditation? You're in the right spot. By the end of this article you should be aware of the benefits of meditating on a daily basis, and have a solid foundation of how to create your own personal meditation practice.
In truth, you have meditated at least once in your life before, whether you realized it or not. Dropping into a meditative state is actually a natural process for us, because it's healing and restores both our mind AND our bodies energy.
Spontaneous Meditation
Have you ever purely watched the wind blow through the trees, the water ripple in a pond, the waves splash in the ocean, the birds jumping from branch to branch? Do you recall being completely relaxed and focused on the beauty you were witnessing?
When your mind is (mostly) free of "reflex thoughts", and you're aware of the current moment in front of you, then you are experiencing a form of meditation. And chances are, you've done that at least once in your lifetime so far ....
Nature naturally can drop us into a meditative state ... it's what it does best! When we remove ourselves from nature continuously (work inside, exercise inside, eat inside, only walk on concrete, remain in air conditioned spaces, etc) we unconsciously begin to create negative emotions. After long periods of time, we become depressed! Not fun!
A Daily Focused Meditation Practice....
Meditating on a daily basis (or at least every other day) has an incredible power to restore our energy in the mind and in the body. When we meditate, we NATURALLY and SAFELY reduce stress, anxiety, sleep disorders, fatigue, and many other symptoms of low energy emotions.
To Start, Simply Follow These Steps...
- Find a quiet location where you will hopefully not be disturbed for 10 - 20 minutes.
- Turn on a Meditation DNA recording via an Mp3 player, CD player, or stereo system ... and put a pair of headphones on.
- Sit upright in a comfortable chair
- Close your eyes
- Focus on your breathing pattern
- Begin to slow your breathing down
- Stay focused on your breath for most of the meditative experience
Sounds simple, right? Well that's the beginning...
Essentially, you are working on gaining control of your MIND. After years of repeated interruptions through what we call 'daily life', the mind has been trained to be constantly reacting and judging every single thing that comes to your focus. Not good. This creates stress and anxiety without you realizing it!! It's like a run-a-away mind!!
Take Hold of YOUR Mental Reigns!
The 7 simple meditation steps will help you 'grab the reigns' of your mind. But......
Please Keep In Mind....
If this is your first attempt at quieting the mind, you will probably at some point experience frustration and disappointment over your lack of ability to hold the focus on purely your breath movement. This is natural! Your brain is like a muscle, it needs to be trained. And TODAY you begin training your mind to focus on what YOU want.
"Help! I still can't keep my mind quiet!"
Again, this is natural and will take time. You are building the 'mind muscle' to hold a focus. Day after day, you will notice that you can hold the focus on your breath longer and longer. Within time, you will gain control over your mental focus.
Also, 20 minutes of doing "nothing" will most likely feel awkward. Once again, this is natural since society has trained us that physical action is the only action to success. This is wrong. Start today by removing this "fact" from your brain and replacing it with "all success comes from within, first and foremost."
By meditating on a daily basis, you are reconnecting with your natural internal ability to cultivate successful events in your life! When you are deeply connected with your internal self, the right answers and pathways are naturally revealed to you because you can 'listen' to your surroundings in a deep and powerful way.
None of this information is new, in anyway! It's been around for thousands of years. Humanity is just at the beginning of awakening to its true potential to create divine wealth from within ...
What's next after those 7 steps?
Once you have control of your mind (at least for the most part), you can begin to consciously focus on manifestations you would like to create in your life! It's very exciting, and powerful, but also requires that you can control the minds focus so it doesn't "color" the manifestation with "society driven logic". Learn more from this article about emotions, feelings, and manifesting.
Mantras For Well Being...
Additionally, you can use mantras and create your own. A mantra is purely a statement that is repeated in the mind. For instance: "I am divine love".
When you repeat a mantra over and over, you are vibrational tuning yourself to this emotionally frequency. It's an excellent technique! Learn more about mantras in this article.
The Art of Toning Ahhh and Ommm
Another excellent tool that's often used with meditation is the act of 'toning'. When you let yourself pronounce 'ahhhhhh' on a single musical note, you are reverberating physical energy through your body and the surrounding elements. When you focus your mind on a single thought, a thought of love, peace, harmony, or even a manifestation ... you send out the frequency energy of that emotion with the 'ahhhhh' tone in your voice. It's another extremely powerful tool ... Here's a great web page with a lot of detailed info about toning.
Visualized Realities aka Shamanism
Perhaps the most advanced technique for the meditator is visualizing realities that only exist in the 'ethers'. This is commonly referred to as shamanism, but it's definitely a form of meditation.
Many people do this naturally without thinking a second thought about the visualized reality they experienced in their mind, but it is definitely a tool that's been used for thousands of years by indigenous cultures around the world. Literally, every indigenous culture has a form of shamanism, and they are considered the medicine men of the tribe. Learn more about Shamanism here, and how to get started from this book Journey to the Sacred Garden.
