The Fire Element (Focus and Uses)

In Chinese philosophy, the Wu Xing (Qi Elements), contain five distinct elements. Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Each have there own characteristics that can be used for health and spiritual awareness. This article focuses on the Fire element.

The fire element is associated with the summer season, according to Chinese philosophy, and also connected to our joy and happiness. Through the summer, creativity explodes as the days are the longest and hottest, fueled with excitement.

Fire Element Emotions

As with all the Qi elements, there are positive and negative (yin and yang) sides to the Fire element. A healthy Fire element in an individual will bring joy and creativity! An out of balance Fire element will yield a state over-excitement, or over stimulation.

Understanding these traits will allow an enlightened individual to “catch” an out of balance Fire element before it’s too far off the path of balance. When feelings of over-stimulation occur, you know it’s time to re-balance the Fire element through the Water element, which has a positive emotion of calmness.

Can’t calm down? That’s when meditation becomes a refined weapon of choice for slicing through the “out of control” mind.

On the flip side, though, meditating on be-half of the Fire element can bring about great creativity and insight into new endeavors. Understanding the elements can be an excellent first step to emotionally directing your meditations.

Fire Element Organs

In the physical body, Chinese medicine associates the Fire element with the Heart and the small intestines. The pulse, or heartbeat, is directly related to Fire, which means that the Fire element provides the nourishment for the whole body.

A foggy mind can be related to pour nourishment or circulation, which can be an indicator that our Fire element is out of balance. Wood feeds fire, therefore practicing patience (a positive Wood emotion) can yield joy which provides a clear mind.
