Destructive To Success - Vital To Inspiration: Clutter

There exists a strange force in this world. It gets us all, whether it’s our own or belongs to somebody that we live with! But, rest assured, it is an essential part of life that we eventually must make peace with. It’s a distraction. It gets in the way! It seemingly holds us back from ‘accomplishing’ our set tasks in our mind.

It’s called CLUTTER!

So what do we do? We get frustrated. We clean. We organize. WE throw stuff out. We sell things! And then, peace and clarity reigns. But only for a short period of time … then it starts all over again.

So why do we despise clutter?

There is a yin and yang to everything in our lives. A light and dark that exists in every object and event. Think for a moment, when you notice your office is beginning to accumulate stuff. Do you instantly put up the clutter shield and start throwing things away?

No! Clutter is the result of inspiration! Because you’re inspired whether you know it or not! Stop and take a look at the detail and thoughts that led to the accumulation of that clutter. Follow the threads through the scattered books and papers to see what divine process was behind the accumulation. You will probably see more pattern than you would have believed in the trail leading to your resulting chaos. That’s the time to ride the inspiration wave and let it take it’s course. Reap the benefits of your inspiration that caused the clutter and enjoy the blessings it brought you and possibly the joy it brought to others, because it too has a yin and yang.

Now, here is where most people fall off of the inspiration train and get confused, depressed, annoyed, or some combination because of the mounting junk. When the stuff on your desk turns from being interesting and “useful” to junk and annoying, thats when you need to do a quick organize. Clean, file, and throw away the clutter before it accumulates into a bigger pile.

This is an essential part of working. There will always be things coming into your life. And there will always be things leaving your life. Make peace with the process now and flow naturally with the micro-seasons. If you never can seem to clear your entire office, at least create a two foot by three foot place in front of you where you can see the desktop. Or if it’s a kitchen that never seems to get out of the clutter zone, opt for a clean sink.

If you learn to recognize when inspiration is hitting you, your half way there. First, never wreck great inspiration with cleaning. “I’ll write that great piece after I clean up the office” is the way to kill dreams. Then, learn to recognize when the inspiration is taking a break That’s the time to catch up and clean up, to maintain and organize your stuff. This process is just as important as the inspiration process. It clears the workplace and the mental space for new inspiration.

Yes, I know, I’d rather just maintain constant inspired moments, too. But, all things have a yin and yang, and only staying in the inspired moments will lead to an out of balance life and a huge pile of clutter. So recognize and tend to the fluctuation of energy to be fully in balance and inspirationally satisfied.
