Chinese Qi Elements and How They Relate To Meditation

In traditional Chinese philosophy, the universe is composed of five distinct elements. These elements are known as “Wu Xing”, or the Five Elements, or phases, movements, or steps. They are related to natural rhythms in our world on a macro and micro scale. The five Qi elements are:

  • Wood (anger, patience, liver, sight, birth)
  • Fire (over stimulated, joy, heart, speech, youth)
  • Earth (anxiety, empathy, stomach, taste, adulthood)
  • Metal (grief, courage, lung, smell, old age)
  • Water (fear, calmness, kidney, hearing, death)

Each element has a wide set of associations that relate to our physical bodies, mind, senses, and many other aspects. The yin and yang concept is infused with Qi elements, therefore each element has a light and dark side (Much like our emotions).

The five elements have been around in text for thousands of years. We must not overlook the power and connection of these elements with our capacity to meditate.

So the question is: how do Qi elements relate to meditation?

When the meditator observes a conflict that has arisen in their life, they can use the Qi elements to understand how to correct the conflict. For instance, if the meditator is having difficulties with their lungs, then they can focus on balancing the metal element through visualizing balance of the metal in their body during meditation.

It doesn’t stop at visualization, though. If the meditator understands what element is associated with the conflict in their life, then they can select audio meditations related to the element. This gives the meditation user a great tool set at their hands for correcting and balancing energies in their life.

The Three Souls and Vibrations

In traditional Hawaiian culture, our bodies and minds are composed of three distinct souls. The body soul, the mind soul, and the higher self soul. Each respond in distinct ways and have the ability to self manage. For instance, the body soul does not forget to keep the heart beating if the mind soul goes off on a visual journey during sleep.

With this knowledge, it becomes clear that the body soul can be directly effected by vibrations surrounding it’s environment. Therefore audio meditations tuned to specific elements can, and will make changes in the meditators life (for better or worse).

This happens all the time in the western world where people have a barrage of “entertainment” that offers frequencies of death, poverty, despair, and hate. We have to be honest with ourselves and understand what frequencies our environment is offering. Each negative emotion is associated with a Qi element, and therefore can be returned back to balance through many methods, including meditation.

Conclusion

Understanding the Qi elements can enhance our capabilities to tune energies in our lives.
