Black Elk Speaks

A first must read for anyone who is searching for understanding of the Native American visionary. Black Elk Speaks Is the personal account of Nicholas Black Elk and the Lakota people. He told his experiences and visions to John G. Heilhardt after meeting him in 1930. His visions of the earth and the unity of mankind are a lesson to all who assume the truth belongs only to a selected few.

This is a spiritual classic, as well as a heartbreaking record of the lives of the Lakota nation.  No matter what your religious preference, you cannot help but have a profound respect for this Native American author and his message.  His message is powerful, and he is an inspiration to all mankind.  It should be listed in the required reading section for all students of American history.
